OT

Today we had a pediatric occupational therapist come over to see Squirt about some feeding concerns. He has had a very high gag reflex to thicker textures and is pretty sensitive touching different textures. I thought over this past weekend I would call and cancel since I thought he was doing so much better. Really glad I didn't.
The OT found Squirt to have low muscle tone (floppy side), observed and tried to feed him, showed me the correct way to feed(no more hooking), and lots of play. I know the low tone might sound sort of bad but at this point it is nothing to worry about but something to build and manage. He is starting to stand on his own and is cruising more and more which will build muscle. To help, I am now giving him deep massages every 2 hours that he is awake for about 3-5 minutes (or as long as he will tolerate). When she comes next week we will start something called brushing?
She told me not to focus so much on getting him to eat (solids anyway) which is hard because I think food= fat little piggy. She said once we get the muscle tone this should follow and she would work with him or our speech therapist would.
I feel so fortunate to have such a great team surrounding Squirt guiding and helping us every step of the way. I call it the red carpet treatment and I think every child deserves it.
